Start-ups in T.O.

There are anywhere from 300 to 400 tech start-ups in downtown Toronto. The start-up tech culture is quickly becoming the fastest growing market share in Canada and specifically in Southern Ontario, so much in fact that Universities are starting to focus their education on teaching the principles of "Start-up Culture" U of T has set up MaRS that promotes and advises tech companies. Ryerson & OCAD University have also joined the band wagon and have their own in-house magazines and educational programs centered on this market share. The federal and the provincial governments have started funneling billions of dollars to the start-up industry to help keep technology and the people that support the technology right here in Canada and more importantly in T.O. The Ontario Minister of Research and Innovation Glen Murray recently described one initiative, “The open data project” saying it will be “the most important things I’ve ever been involved in, in my life.” Murray also mentioned that "his government was building the first truly wiki-mobile-digital economy,” right here in Ontario.
